If you love the snow-covered Alps, but need a break from the usual sporting activities, why not try the "gentle" art of skiing? Austria has over 16,000 kilometres of cross-country trails. The best of these are found in the cross-country skiing "Mecca" Tyrol. Almost every ski resort in Tyrol has prepared cross-country tracks. Those interested should pay particular attention to the trail’s seal of approval, which rates the quality of the circuit. 17 cross-country trails have been awarded with quality controller’s approval for maintenance, safety and indication of slope difficulty.
A trail’s seal of approval is assigned by the government of Tyrol. The cross-country route is judged according to safety and maintenance of the track. The following tourism associations are currently proud owners of cross-country seals of approval: Achensee (Achenkirch, Maurach, Eben, Pertisau), Fiss, Galtür, Kaiserwinkl (Kössen, Walchsee), Kals, Kauenrtal (Feichten), Längenfeld (Längenfeld, Huben), Mieminger Plateau & Fernpass-Seen (Obsteig, Mieming, Wildermieming, Nassereith), Ötztal Mitte (Niederthai), Pillerseetal (Hochfilzen, St. Ulrich, Waidring), Prägraten, Reutte (Reutte, Höfen, Wängle, Lechaschau), Olympiaregion Seefeld (Seefeld, Leutasch), Serfaus, St. Johann in Tirol, St. Sigmund-Haggen und Wipptal (Steinach, Gschnitz).
