Places of Interest in East Tyrol

Auguntum near Lienz
Auguntum lies approximately 4 km east of Lienz. Once an important Roman settlement, it enjoyed its heyday under the emperor Claudius (41-54 AD) when it gained autonomy. Exposed ruins and a museum tell the story of this ancient city.

Maria Hilf
The occurrence of what many believe to be a miracle at Hollbruck in 1650 resulted in a pilgrimage city being erected shortly after. It was the enormous deluge of pilgrims that made it necessary to build the church, which was constructed between 1680 - 85. The architect, Michael Niedergatscher from Stegen near Bruneck, was supported several other Tyrolean artists.

Bruck Castle (City of Lienz Museum)
This castle was the residence of Count von Görz from ca. 1278 - 1500. It houses a chapel and frescos from Simon von Taisten. The castle has served as the City of Lienz Museum since 1943.

Tammerburg Castle
Tammerburg lies on the northern outskirts of Lienz. Over centuries, the castle has taken on various different functions, from an aristocratic estate, to a nursing home, a farmhouse and a kitchen for Bruck Castle. Today Tammerberg is owned by the city of Lienz. The castle was re-opened to the public on 1 May 2001, after restoration work was carried out.

Land of Dolls - Oberlienz
Watch the dolls from Luise Oberhauser come to life, almost. See how they live, dress, work and party.

Anras Castle
Anras is nestled within an idyllic breathtaking landscape. It offers panoramic views from the Lienz Dolmites to the Sextner Dolomites. The province of Tyrol has installed a court museum exhibiting the history of judical sentencing from 1499 to the present date. The castle also houses special exhibitions from well-known artists, as well as landscape and alpine life photography shows.

Die Galitzenklamm
The Glitzenklamm at the foot of the Dolomites attracts nature enthusiasts from near and far. Visitors can follow the cascading waterfalls and the flow of the flume along a newly laid path. You can admire the wonderful panoramic view of the power of nature by standing on the rock bridge.
