RATSCHINGS / RIDNAUN in the Eisacktal in South Tyrol
Maria Faßnauer, the “Ridnauner Riesin”
Around 1900 she moved from her home town to Europe, to show off her impressive height – 2.28 m.
Sights in Ratschings:
- Gilfenklamm: The only gorge in the world which is deeply cut in the pure white marble.
- Schneeberg/Ridnaun regional museum of mining: A mine from the Middle Ages became a museum! Show caves and mining preparation facilities, minerals and the like. Guided daily tour to the mining settlement of St. Martin at 2.300 m altitude, along the teaching path of the largest above ground conveyor belt in the world.
- Regional museum for hunting and fishing in Wolfsthurn castle: a unique collection in the entire Alpine area in the Baroque castle.
Winter sport in RATSCHINGS
Ratschings is almost like a paradise for winter athletes. The Ratschings-Jaufen ski area which has 8 lifts and 15 pistes offer the best conditions for skiing pleasure. The new "Easypark Ratschings" has recently become another highlight: right at the Enzian lift there is a "Wave-Line" for beginners, a "Jib-Line" for those who are feeling brave and a "Kicker-Line" for the pros, and all that close to Hotel Ridnaun.
Ridnaun, special part of the three valley area of Ratschings
Ridnaun, characterised by mineral mining from centuries past, is today a sophisticated town for winter sport. Take advantage of the cross-country skiing taster course with instructors, or enjoy the winter landscape in Ridnauntal on a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride.
