VILLANDERS in the Eisacktal
Holiday in Villanders in the Eisacktal
The lovely village of Villanders has a picturesque town centre which is well worth seeing. Old farms, traditional guesthouses and the wonderful landscape invite you come and spend a bit of time here. The town goes from 491 above sea level right up to 2509 m, the summit of the Villander mountain. Orchards and vineyards, fields, chestnut groves, forests and Alpine meadows are different in each season. In spring the plum blossoms, in summer the Alpine roses, in autumn the wonderful colours as the deciduous trees change colour and in winter the splendid white. Discover this natural beauty on hikes and enjoy the superb views into the valley and to the Grödner Dolomites.
Hiking in summer and in winter
The hiking paradise begins at Eisack. Villanderer Alm, as a Hochalm with lots of good views in the middle of the Sarntaler Alps offers countless hiking opportunities, cosy huts and fantastic panoramic views right into the Dolomites. Some of the other sports in the region: the South Tyrol cycle path on the Eisack, the mountain bike routes around Villanderer Alm, Keschtnweg, leisurely low mountain hikes, the Alpine paths on the second highest Alp in Europe.
Winter sport: small and sophisticated
Winters in Villanders are mild and sunny – here you can practice sport far away from the hustle and bustle of the big ski areas. There are lovely cross-country ski slopes (up to Rittner Horn) with 6, 8 and 30 km, sunny winter hiking paths and excellent opportunities for ski tours. For children tobogganning is a fun alternative.
Those who still want the best prepared pistes can visit the well-known ski areas of Gröden, Plose, Jochtal near Vals and Kronplatz (all at the ski carousel ‘Dolomiti SuperSki’) which are within easy reach by car from the hotel in Villanders.
